That depends on how recently you had the tooth removed. If it was a few days ago, some swelling and pain are normal. But if it's been a week or more, that's not good. Yes, the infection could have spread. Call your dentist. It may be as simple as being prescribed antibiotics and/or the dentist may need to see you. ~ T
Abscessed means infection and if it ruptures, this means that fluid will spill in to your mouth which could cause further infection the best thing to do is to see a dentist who will give you antibiotics.
ANY infection needs to be treated immediately with antibiotics, as you could become VERY sick if the infection enters your bloodstream. If you get "blood poisoning" and it goes untreated you could possibly die.
Throat infection or tonsillitis.
You need to go to the Emergy Room and get some antibiotics. The swelling is cellulitus could be fatal, and could become Ludwig's angina (swelling of the throat which could strangle you). My bf had it recently and has to get them removed still or it can happen again. They put him on IVs, he could have died. He had IVs at home for a week. So don't let it become too serious. He uses backwash and keeps his mouth very clean now to avoid another (painful and expensive) infection until he gets them removed..
Well besides the obvious, pain and distress it causes. The infection could very easily spread through the blood stream and you can become very ill. Better to get started on antibiotics, and when the infection is cleared have the tooth removed or fixed. ------------ Abscess is an extremely serious condition and if left untreated it could lead to life threatening conditions. Sometimes patients don't feel constant pain, there is a swelling and it hurts only when they apply pressure on it, and even in those situations abscess have to be treated. There are many complications that could occur, such as necrosis, meaning death of tissue that would need to be removed. Infection could occur which could move to the bloodstream. Commonly mild side effects are all that one would experience such as swelling, bruising, and mild bleeding.
Did you take a load of spooge in the eye? That can cause a nasty infection.

It could be a fungal infection. You could try over the counter "athletes foot" remedies but if they do not work or if the swelling is significant or it is getting painful you should see your doctor. It could some other problems.
It could be a sign of a possible infection. Go to your FMD.
You're going to die
Systemic infection precipitates fever, malaise, myalgia, nausea. A local infection, such as an infected wound, could cause pain, swelling, colour change, and temperature increase.
