perhaps it is muscle spasms.
I hurt my back 2 or 3 years ago lifting something - and it wasn't even anything heavy; I must have twisted wrong when I bent over. It hurt so bad I couldn't even sit up let alone stand. I was taken to the local er and given muscle relaxants.
I'd never had back problems before and my back has never been right since.
It's not nearly that bad now, but it still hurts all of the time and occasionally gets VERY painful. Only muscle relaxants help when it gets too bad.
