If you were to get married after high school would that affect your academic scholarships? |
Answer
Answer
Unless the scholarship information/application specifically states anything about marital status, it probably wouldn't affect it. They do consider marital status when calculating financial need, but it generally has no effect on academic credentials.
Some schools, however, do not offer housing for married students, and so getting married while in school can have a financial impact if your scholarship includes room and board, as those costs will have to come out-of-pocket once you move off-campus with your spouse.
If the scholarship is needs based and needs to be renewed, getting married will change your FAFSA answers. Whether this will make an impact on the scholarship will depend on how much money the new married couple makes.
