If you will be working in a different state for the summer do you need to tell your insurance company and get a different policy?

Answer

That's a good question, but when you get right down to it, it probably depends on your insurance carriers policies on that sort of thing.

Generally speaking, though, if you still consider your primary residence to be in the state where the policy is written, you should be okay. This is similar to college students who go away for the year, but still consider their parents' home as a primary residence. Usually the policy is just written for the parents' address.

But, to be sure, contact your agent. Depending on what type of policy your carrier uses for auto coverage, there might be a provision or condition in the policy that requires you to notify them of a change of address for any lengthy period of time.
