My grandaughter is 25 months and still not talking at all. She shouts out loud noises and totally understands what we tell her. She is brilliant at letting us know what she wants and is bright in every other way. She slavers terribly all the time. She lives with us as her parents are both drug addicts. My stepdaughter took drugs when she was pregnant with her. Could this be the reason she doesn't talk?
Your granddaughter may have a developmental problem, especially sine she was exposed to drugs before birth.
Though there is no set time at which a child must begin talking, they usually do by 24 months old. Any child who does not should be be thoroughly evaluated by a pediatrician, neurologist and any other specialist who deals with genetic or birth defects. Sadly, many doctors are now expert at diagnosing children whose problems are the result of parental drug use, both before and after birth. Don't wait to have her checked out!
