If your husband charged 40000 dollars on credit cards in his name only can you be held responsible for paying them back?

Answer

In most cases the account holder is the only person responsible for the debt(s). However the laws pertaining to repayment of debts are governed by state statutes. In community property states some debts are owned jointly by married couples, regardless of who holds the account. W/O knowing the state of residency it is not possible to be more specific. A search of the creditor/debtor law's of your state may provide more information. Please feel free to email me if I can be of further help.
