First of all reputations aren't always true, but if you have first hand knowledge of his reputation to be very private, then perhaps he finds you interesting and feels that he can confide in you.
There could be more to it than that so do be careful not to let your guard down. You are being trained to do something by someone who has knowledge in that particular field, you aren't a paid professional, to listen to his problems, so if it gets too heavy put a quick stop to the intrusion of your private space. Tell your trainer that you can't help him and maybe even complain to your parents about this intrusion of your privacy as who needs it.
I don't want to say anything bad about this person as I don't know him, but he's being unprofessional in confiding in you in the first place. Perhaps it's time to talk to your parents about this situation as it seems very strange that a personal trainer wouldn't know better than to confide in one of his students. It's a definite no no.
