That would be fire pokers... Brass Andirons would be a true treasure to have. They are matching stands that hold up the logs inside the fireplace. Today,we use a fire grate usually. this allows a more efficient burn on the firewood. Today andirons are used as a decorative addition to the fireplace usually. FYI it would be difficult to impale an eye, more likely crush a skull ;)
