That previous answer was incorrect that the support does not accrue while you are imprisoned. The support continues to bill, meaning it will be in arrears even more when released.

∙ 13y agoA judge will determine how much jail time, if any, a parent will receive for not paying child support. While jail sentences are allowed, they are not common, and usually only applied in severe cases. For example, someone who is unemployed, heavily in debt, and unable to pay their child support due to lack of funds will likely not receive any jail time. On the other hand, someone who is financially well off and simply refusing to pay is much more likely to get jail time.
