In New York can you go to jail if you slap someone? |
Answer
Perhaps.
It depends on the circumstances and what is considered a "slap".
Physical altercations between minors or adults do not usually result in the person being arrested. Some exceptions are, acts of domestic violence incidents between minors or adults in public places, or any other such situation where obvious physical injury has occurred.
Most minor incidents do not subject the involved parties to arrest or prosecution but can lead to civil action by any "injured" parties.
It also depends on who was slapped, a police officer, a judge, an elected offical? One may not end up in jail but could find themselves in a local lock-up for a few hours. A slap could also be defined as an assault.
