None is short for 'not one (person/thing)' or 'no one' or 'not any.'
Because 'none' has a 'singular' basic meaning, it is easy to think that it should always be followed by a singular verb, e.g....
and then there were none was a book about a island called Indian island. some people were trapped on it and were killed of one by one. at the end there was a note from the killer.
