Anything dealing with men is mindless because they are complicated. The heart only grows fonder if it has fondness to begin with for the absent one. Out of sight/mind only works if there are no feelings left. Basically if you have love for this individual then either way you will find it hard to forget them. Men are like babys: they need the love and the nuturing but have a hard time expressing exactly how. Some men think it shows weakness to show emotions but I myself am grooming my son to be emotionally attached not detached from his and others feelings and that my friend will make for a better man. I say real men wear pink, cry and love all woman in there lives like their mothers, whole heartedly......... Depends on the circumstances under which you and the man are distant, his level of feelings for you, his mental health issues if any, and so on. After a breakup, some people tend to idealise the relationship as time goes on, meaning they recall the good things and not the bad things. In that case they might grow fonder (this is why some people try to re-contact). Some people deliberately try to forget the other person and move on, in which case they wouldn't, especially if they have a new person in their life. If it's simply a matter of geography that is the source of your distance, I would think the level of feelings involved and the possibility of being together would factor into it.

In psychology and dealing with the male part absence actually does make the heart grow fonder. The male is a lot more likely to feel depressed and anxiety. They'll stress and loose weight, and be the ones to rack up quite a phone bill calling their significant other. Out of sight out of mind isn't the case most of the time. Also depends on the relationship. Strong feelings have to be involved to continue dating long distance. A lot of couples if it comes to a point where they have to move away will just cut all ends. So yes when dealing with men absence does make the heart grow fonder.

Why absence makes the heart go fonder?

Absence does not really make the heart grow fonder. Absence usually makes people forget the bad quicker than the good. People forget why they broke up and wanted nothing to do with each other ever again. Still, as soon as people leave high school and go off to college, they usually break up with their high school sweethearts for someone else. So, unless there has been serious trauma, they usually forget or repress the bad and keep the good memories.
