A disposition is basically a pretrial interview with both attorneys present to gather information ("discovery") for use during the trial. A disposition hearing is when there has already been an agreement in a case between the defendant and DA. This is where a defendant will plead guilty instead of taking it to trial. This can also be when sentencing occurs as well, however sentencing hearing is usually scheduled later. As described above, that is more a pre-trial conference.
the definition of disposition is, ones usual outlook or mood. A noun

Disposition should not be confused with deposition, a written statement, by the defendant, in court. Disposition is the final outcome of a court case, such as "guilty" "dismissed", etc.

Disposition means the manner in which the case is settled or resolved.

Just think of it this way, disposition also means attitude (i.e. Lucy from i love Lucy always said that ricky had a bad disposition, meaning a bad temper, easily enraged) so thinking of it this way might help you

In court, a disposition is the final determination of a lawsuit or criminal charge. In French law it has a different meaning. It sometimes means the effective marks of a will of a person - it can also be the instrument containing those marks.
