This is because of the exculsivity of the French colonies compared to the open English colonies. The English colonies were set up for religious freedom, being a newly protestant nation, this meant alot to them. The French however were much more selective of their colonists. They only wanted Catholics. Not only that but upstanding Catholics. This resulted in fewer numbers for the French, but huge numbers for the Brits. Another factor was the treatment of the natives on both sides. The French were much more respective of the natives than the British were. British conquered and enslaved a good portion of the aboriginal population, while the French worked together with the natives, especially regarding the fur trade. This does not attribute to British success, but it does explain how the French did as well as they did. They had many aboriginal allies who could assist them in their battles. There were other factors, but these were a couple of the main ones.

The American colonists owned their own farms or were working to purchase their own farms and did not want to live as the French subjects lived. Thus, while Britain's American colonists created numerous militias to fight alongside the British Army, the French subjects lacked interest in fighting. When General Braddock was mortally wounded and the British were in wild retreat, Colonel Washington ordered his troops to split into two columns and hide in the woods. He let the British run between them. The French chased after them. At the signal, the colonists attacked. The Americans defeated the French Army. Just because the British retreated did not mean they would.
England's Colonists Militias did not hesitate to fight the Indian allies of the French. When the British conquered land in Canada, the French settlers did not form militias. They refused to fight for France.
When the Revolutionary War in America ended, the French asked the people of Quebec if they would prefer to return to French rule instead of living under English rule. They replied, "No."
They would rather be free Englishmen that French serfs.
