Rosalie was very pretty, and more then anything in the world she wanted a handsome prince, a child, and a huge house. She met a rich guy and they got engaged. One night Rosalie went to visit one of her friends, and her friend's family. When she was walking home, she came upon her fiance and his friends. They were drunk and beat her, and it is assumed they rape her, though it is not stated in the novel. After they were done with her, they walked away and left her to die. Carlisle came along, and thought that it seemed like too much of a waste to let her die, so he changed her into a vampire.
