In the upper room in Jerusalem. Acts 2 (look it up) ________________________________________________________

Actually, in reading Acts 2, its says...
Acts 2:1 ESV When the day of Pentecost arrived, they were all together in one place.
It is in the previous chapter that it states they were in an upper room...
However, Pentecost (Greek...meaning 50 days) takes place during the appointed time of Shavuot (Hebrew...meaning 7 weeks) or Feast of Weeks. The Feast of Weeks was one of 3 pilgrimage feasts ordained by God (Leviticus 23) ...and more than likely, the Followers of Jesus were on the Southern Stairs of the Temple....celebrating along with the other Righteous Jews who came up from their own countries.
Acts 2:5-6 ESV Now there were dwelling in Jerusalem Jews, devout men from every nation under heaven. (6) And at this sound the multitude came together, and they were bewildered, because each one was hearing them speak in his own language.

"Though it is impossible to pinpoint an exact location for these events, there is significant support for placing this Pentecost event in an area of the Temple. * It was Shavuot. All pilgrims gathered in the temple for the service on this festive and holy day. Certainly, the disciples, who were "continually" in the temple courts (Luke 24:53), would have been in the temple on that day also. * Great crowds from everywhere garnered to listen to Peter and the other disciples. Where would great crowds have garnered on a holy feast day at the time of temple service? Clearly, they would have been in the temple somewhere (Acts 2:6?12). * The disciples were all in one place. The sound of a great wind filled "the whole house" (Acts 2:2) where they were. The temple is still called "the house" by Jewish people, referring to God's house. Even in Acts, it is called "the house" (Acts 7:47) (5). * Peter declared that it was 9:00 in the morning, the time of the Pentecost service in the temple. Certainly, the crowds, to say nothing of the disciples, would have been in the temple at the time Shavuot ceremonies were conducted. Some believe that 9:00 was the time during which the selected passages were read, describing the appearance of God on Mount Sinai (in thunder, lightning, fire, and smoke) and Ezekiel's vision of his appearance (with the sound of wind and with fire). * Peter spoke of the tomb of David as being there (Acts 2:29). The Bible recorded that David was buried in the "City of David" (1 Kings 2:10), the part of Jerusalem located near the temple Mount. * Three thousand people were baptized in response to the teaching of the disciples (Acts 2:41). Near the Southern Stairs, the pilgrim entrance to the Temple Mount, were mikvoth, ritual baths used by the worshipers before they entered the temple grounds. There were not many places in Jerusalem with enough water for that many baptisms. The proximity of these many pools, already believed to symbolize the removal of the uncleanness of sin, is evidence that this location was near the temple. "
At the end of the gospels and at the beginning of the book Acts, Jesus told his disciples to wait for the coming of the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit's coming was necessary for the beginning and ongoing strength of the church.
On the day of Pentecost, everyone that was in the upper room, was filled with the Holy Ghost, speaking in tongues as the spirit gave them the utterance, and had cloves of fire upon each head.
For more specific answers, you can look in the first few chapters of Acts...
I know this because I am Apostolic Pentecostal :)
On Pentecost, the Holy Spirit descended in the form of "tongues" of flame that rested on the heads of the Apostles and other disciples of Jesus Christ. This occurred in an "upper room" in Jerusalem where the followers of Christ had met together. When this occurred, they were tremendously excited and empowered, and went out into the streets, openly preaching and telling people about the Risen Christ. This is itself regarded as a miracle, because until that point the disciples had been hiding for fear of being arrested and killed as Jesus had been killed.
Other Jews from many countries had gathered in the city for a Jewish feast day, and these people reported hearing the disciples of Jesus speaking in many different foreign languages. This is the miraculous gift of "tongues," or glossolalia, the ability to speak fluently in a language one has never learned.
Then the Apostle Peter preached to a large crowd, and several thousand people were convinced to become followers of Jesus on that day.
Pentecost is regarded as the birthday of the Church.

Pentecost was the birth of the church. Also, Jesus used Pentecost to give Believers the Holy Spirit.
Indeed, Pentecost and Mother's Day fall on the same day this year, 2008 (on May 11).
The Pentecost event is recounted in the second chapter of the book of Acts, which is not technically one of the gospels, but is more of a bridge between them and the epistles.
