They were cruel and no human should have to endure what some slaves had to endure although not all slave owners were that bad. The usual punishment was whipping, but if the large males (usually called "bucks") were prime to sell on the block at the marketplace they didn't want to disfigure that particular black so would sell him off as quickly as possible. There were hangings. They were hunted down like prey by dogs and often an over-seer would be cruel enough to let the dogs finish the poor man off. Often black families were separated for life. Can you imagine if someone decided you would make good slave material and took your whole family and divided you up to different plantation owners and you never saw or knew what happened to your parents or siblings?

The punishments were incredibly gruesome! The Africans' suffering never stopped. Families were torn apart and forced to forget their names and their past. Some slaves tried to choke on dust to kill themselves. The punishment for this was an iron muzzle. There were also punishments for trying to run away, and punishments for not working hard enough. These included: removal of the penis and removal of a hand.

The worst slave punishments were: 1. Whipping the slave so much on their back, it formed deep long bloody gashes. These were called trees. 2. When the slave tried to run away, or stand up against the master, or plan an uprising, the master would beat severly beat or kill the slave in front of the others, as an example and warning. 3. Another was dismemberment of the body. If a slave ran away, a leg or foot might be cut of. Or if the slave was eavesdropping, and ear would be cut off. (etc. etc.) Thats all i can thinki of right now, I'll bb soon!

Slaves were forced to eat, even if they were not hungry. They were also sold at auctions which made them get torn away from their families.

they were punished by being whipped, having to wear an ankle brace, forced to live in a shack that many slaves were forced to live in, and they had little to no furniture. They had a fireplace that made smoke go into the home. However, the slave drivers weren't all mean. Some would allow slaves to have their own garden.

If you are asking about black slaves in the Roman Empire, their punishment was the same as for white slaves. Depending upon the master and the "crime" the punishments varied from a reprimand and a withholding of a benefit such as a bonus, new clothes, or food for a day, to a whipping, or a public execution. There was no set standard of punishments and there were no punishments determined by skin color. Remember, ancient slavery was not determined by race, it was determined by birth.

If they refused to eat the overseers on the boats would force their jaws open (and sometimes brake them) with a device known as the occulus.

How did the African slave rebel against their owners?

slaves didn't really rebel however some ranaway and got severly punished if caught and others teamed up with other slaves and tried to create and army. it hardly ever worked and they often got put to death Edit: Slaves would often work slowly or "accidentally break tools". Sometimes tools were lost, or animals ran off because the workers weren't 'strong enough' to hold them. Some slaves were more risky, setting fires in sheds and barns, or even poisoning their master's food.
