the internet started in 1957 DARPA was created in 1958. But this only started the research that led to create the Internet. The Network Control Protocol (NCP) was finalized and deployed in December 1970 by the Network Working Group (NWG), led by Steve Crocker. But it was not until RFC 768 "User Datagram Protocol", RFC 791 "Internet Protocol", RFC 792 "Internet Control Message Protocol, RFC 793 "Transmission Control Protocol" were ratified in 1980 and 1981 that the Internet took shape. Modern protocols like e-mail, ftp, telnet, http ... all depend on these underlying protocols. The ARPANET host protocol was switched from NCP to TCP/IP as of January 1, 1983. The underlying protocols that run the Internet have fundamentally changed since this date. Much later on Mar. 11, 1999 Al Gore claims to have invented the Internet: "During my service in the United States Congress, I took the initiative in creating the Internet." In 1973, the U.S. Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA) initiated a research program to investigate techniques and technologies for interlinking packet networks of various kinds. The objective was to develop communication protocols which would allow networked computers to communicate transparently across multiple, linked packet networks. This was called the Inter netting project and the system of networks which emerged from the research was known as the "Internet." The system of protocols which was developed over the course of this research effort became known as the TCP/IP Protocol Suite, after the two initial protocols developed: Transmission Control Protocol (TCP) and Internet Protocol (IP).

Finally in 1960 Internet was launched by ARPANET (Advanced Research Projects Agency NETwork) through which connect four (4) Universities together.

The World-Wide-Web (WWW) is a part of the Internet was introduced in 1989 By Tim Berners-Lee (a British physicist at the CERN in Geneva).

APRANET itself was set up in 1958 for the US DoD (Department of Defense), 60,000 computers communicated for communication among research organizations and Universities, and worked on a variety of projects. But, as per above, what is now the Internet didn't first come online until 1969. Finally we can say that the idea of internet is started from ARPANET.

I had just started a Retail Business in LA. Even as I got my real world business going, I remember thinking, this internet thing is going to take off and change everything. I knew I had to get a website if I was going to compete in Retail, yet I was one of the only small business I knew of with that thought in mind. I was on Ebay back then too - when it was nothing. I knew it would go BIG and I missed the ticket by not buying stock in that company. ALL this took place in 1994. That is when the internet really took off. And when I say this, I mean this was about the time, the general public started realizing - get in or be left behind.

I now have a new business in an area that is really hitting the world big time (2010) - Social Media. socialsweetspot.com
