Mercury is an element of atomic weight 80. At room tmperature it is a liquid. It is a good conductor of electric current and is used in switches and some light bulbs. It is also, however, poisonous to nerve tissue and will accumulate in the human body if ingested. (Dental fillings made with a mercury amalgam are not generally dangerous.)
