The systolic is high but the diastolic is normal. This means that your arteries are not stiff, but your heart was beating a little harder than normal. This could be due to you smoking, drinking coffee/tea or just being nervous before the BP was taken.

Average blood pressure is 120/80 so your systolic (top number)

This is 'mild' high blood pressure. It should be lower but for many people the risk from mild high blood pressure is small, and drug treatment is not indicated. However, certain groups of people with blood pressure in this range should consult a doctor.

- an existing cardiovascular disease

- Diabetes

- damage to the heart or kidney (organ damage) due to high blood pressure

- a family history of Heart disease

How much is high blood pressure?

Blood pressure can vary widely during the day. A blood pressure reading of 132/70 in the morning can be 150/90 in the afternoon - or vice versa. Most people with high blood pressure do not experience any symptoms, which is why regular blood pressure checks are so important. With 160-210 mmHg range will kill you. But having over 140/90 is signs of high pressure.

Is 160 over 90 high for 80 year old male?

Yes, blood pressure of 160/90 has the designation of the stage II hypertension for a person of any age as of now. The Joint National Committee on Prevention, Detection, Evaluation, and Treatment of High Blood Pressure is working on a new report and they plan to release in the spring of 2012.

Your blood pressure is 160 and weight is 104. How should I manage the two?

160 is not a blood pressure. 160 over 90 would be. And if your top pressure measurement is 160, you should consult your doctor immediately! Normal is considered 120 over 80, and they would prefer to see 115 over 75. Anything over 150 is considered pretty dangerous. Weight is 104? In kilograms? If that is pounds, it is pretty low and not something to worry about. That will depend on your height.

Is 160 blood pressure reading dangerous?

It depends on the person's baseline reading. Though I don't think people stroke out really until their systolic is about 200. Over time, however, a high blood pressure will cause the heart to have to work really hard to push blood out and will dilate the heart causing cardiomyopathy.

Is the blood pressure of 165 over 108 high for a 36 year old?

Consider that the arterial pressure of a healthy adult is around 120/80 mmHg. An arterial pressure of 165/108 mmHg is considered high, yes. In fact, a patient whose blood pressure exceeds 160/100 mmHg suffers stage II hypertension, which represents a quite severe condition. If the blood pressure gets any higher, it can be very dangerous for cardiovascular health.

What does it mean if your blood pressure is 240 over 160?

>I found a website which discusses secondary causes of high blood pressure: http://www.heartpoint.com/highbloodpage.html. Primary hypertension is the result of inherited genes. According to the article, in about 2% of cases, there are specific abnormalities which are an identifiable reason for high blood pressure. This site should be checked out.The above website page has nothing about blood pressure spikes. Just continuous high blood pressure. No mention of various causes of spikes I've seen mentioned on forum discussion pages. Not verified, but they mentioned vascular migraines and adrenal gland tumors.
