Is Adderall prescribed for anything other than ADHD?

Adderall is classified as a Schedule II controlled Substance. As such, it is illegal to obtain without a handwritten prescription from a licensed medical professional.
What do you want it for? My psychiatrist prescribes it to me to help balance out some of the side effects of other meds I'm on.
And yes it is illegal to obtain or use Adderall without a prescription - but ADD or ADHD are not the only reasons Adderall is prescribed.
Sorry but I won't say why I'm on it...no point in making it easier for anyone to abuse this med. But I am under the care of a psychiatrist AND a GP - they keep in touch at my request because Adderall can be addicting and I want someone to keep an eye on my usage.
Yes, now you have to keep in mind that doctors prescribe medication everyday for things that the specific medication wasn't licensed for... Adderall is a highly abused drug, but the flip side is that it's a highly maintained drug as well. NOT everyone abuses it. Doctors prescribe it for ADHD, weight loss (less common) some use it to tweak the meds that some are already on, narcolepsy, some may prescribe it for other things. I have known it prescribed for Chronic Fatigue Syndrome. It's not a medication to abuse that's for sure. If you and your doctor have a good relationship you should be able to ask about medications available. I do ask my doctor about medications I have heard about... it's what you SHOULD be able to do...If your doctor know's your history, knows what you need then you will know what medications are right for you. It's trial and error, Adderall is not an exception. I take 30mg Adderall XR 3 times daily. It's a good medication I take it for ADHD, and to tweak some of the medications I am already on. It works good. But there is a medication out there even better then Adderall : ) If you know what it is.. and your insurance will pay for it... Dexidrene Spanules are longer acting then Adderall XR, most people don't get the full 8-10 hour effect out of it. The spanules are longer acting and better overall. But you do have to take double the dose, to equal what you would take of XR, and getting most insurance to pay for that is CRAZY.: )
Adderall is also prescribed for the fatigue associated with Multiple Sclerosis.
It is also prescribed for Narcolepsy
