It's not known whether his natural father Stanley is still alive, but I would doubt it- Elton was born in 1947 when his Dad was a flight lieutenant in the RAF, so to have reached that rank he would have to have been about 30. It's possible he is still alive as of 2012, but if so then he'd be a very old man in his mid-90s.

Elton's parents seperated when he was 14- his mother Shiela remarried, to a local painter named Fred Farebrother who was a good stepfather to Elton and they got on very well. However, a family row resulted in Elton cutting off all ties with his mother and stepfather in 2008; Fred Farebrother died shortly afterwards, and Elton did not attend the funeral.

His mother Shiela is still alive at 87 years old, but she and her famous son are still not on speaking terms, and she has no interest in his son Zachary, who was born to him and partner David Furnish via a surrogate mother on Christmas Day 2010.

UPDATE: Have managed to establish that Elton's natural Dad Stanley Dwight died in 1991- he was in his 80s, and had suffered from chronic health problems for decades including having had a quadruple heart bypass operation in 1982. Elton was offhand and non-committal about his father's death.
