Is Almeda University a scam?

Answer:

Answer

In order for something to be a scam, there must be a victim of fraud or deceit. In the case of Almeda University, I'm unable to identify anyone who would fit that description. In fact, upon studying the Almeda website for evidence of fraudulent promises, I found that the University fully discloses what it is offering, and students choose whether or not to buy the product. Almeda also offer refunds to dissatisfied students. Upon further investigation with the Better Business Bureau of Boise, Idaho, I found that Almeda University has an outstanding record of standing behind its product and ensuring customer satisfaction.

The student who applies for and receives a degree from Almeda University is definitely not being scammed. The student is seeking a degree, with credit for life experience. To obtain this, the student pays a fee to Almeda, and Almeda in turn evaluates the student's transcripts including experiential learning to assign appropriate credit. Upon meeting all of Almeda's standard requirements, the student receives a degree. No scam here.

But what about employers-are they being scammed by Almeda?

No. Almeda does not scam employers. Any employer can view the website and see how their prospective employee got their degree. If the employee obtained their degree without actually earning it, then this scammer is the employee -- not Almeda.

Because, as fully disclosed in its guidelines, Almeda does not participate in any financial aid programs, there is no scamming of financial aid institutions or organizations. And lastly, some have claimed that Almeda wrongly pulls "legitimate" enrollment from traditional colleges and universities, but such claims hold no water. The typical Almeda University graduate is between 35 and 40 years of age - a middle-aged business professional with multiple and competing outside demands (family, work, and personal interests, for example). These are students for whom a traditional college degree is out of reach. Almeda performs a valuable service by offering a flexible alternative for such students to earn a degree while maintaining their busy lives.

You should know that Almeda is NOT regionally accredited and the degree you obtain from Almeda may not be usable. It should not be used to gain entry to another university or a government job.
