Is Barack Obama a born again Christian?

There is reason to believe that he is a born again believer, though it is hard to say, as he is a politician.

Bush isn't as bad as most of them, but I doubt that he will say that he is saved in some press conference or speech anytime soon.

Here is President Obama's confession of his faith in Jesus Christ:

"I am a Christian, and I am a devout Christian. I believe in the redemptive death and resurrection of Jesus Christ. I believe that that faith gives me a path to be cleansed of sin and have eternal life. I also believe in the example that Jesus set by feeding the hungry and healing the sick and always prioritizing the least of these over the powerful."

In the general sense, being 'born again' means finding your faith and holding on to it, after being in doubt or growing up faithless. But there are a number of definitions of "born again."

Over the centuries to be "born again" meant to gain a new spirituality, renewal and revival of faith, via baptism. This is still the understanding in Roman Catholicism, Anglicanism and Eastern Orthodoxy. But, after the Reformation being 'born again,' according to many traditionalist Protestants is actual conversion via water baptism, along with a solid commitment to Jesus Christ for salvation.

As for whether being "born again" applies to Barack Obama, some people continue to question whether he is a Christian, even though he says he is. Despite evidence to the contrary, some people believe that he was born to a Muslim father, and they think he was raised Muslim. But his father had long since abandoned any interest in Islam and by the time his son was born, identified as an Atheist. Barack Obama was not raised in any religion, as his mother was Christian but not religious. Later, he was introduced to mainstream Protestant beliefs by his grandparents, but if we are being accurate, we might say he returned to Christianity and decided to commit to it. If being born again refers to losing your faith and then returning to it, he certainly qualifies.

But some people disagree that he could be born-again. He has said that he has always considered himself a Christian. If you've always been a Christian and believed in Jesus Christ and were born to a Christian parent (his mother), some would say you can't actually be born again...if you were never lost. Thus, it depends on your definition of being "born again."
