China's rapidly growing software industry will soon rival India's, not necessarily eclipsing it.
Before the 1990s, China was technologically behind in numerous types of software due to the mentality Chinese investors had. They found software inferior to hardware. However, after the 1990s, when investors began realizing the importance and the potential market of software, large investments began flowing into the industry. Consequently, these seeds came into fruitation, giving birth to numerous prominent Chinese softwares such as Baidu (search engine) QQ (instant messenger), and Xunlei (download manager) that many know today.
In spite of China's rapid technological growth in the software IT sector, it is still behind India. Furthermore, while China's offshore software industry is limited to Japan and South Korea due to language barriers, India's English proficiency allows it to market its software to and successfully outsource software companies from all English-speaking countries.
A great challenge for China in the software industry is intellectual theft which may shorten corporation life expectancy, and lead to unsuccessful investments...
