Where the heck did you hear that? No, unless a giant meteor hits and slows earth's spin to a crawl, that will not happen. And if a meteor does hit, then the length of the day will be the least of our worries. I'd be more worried about how a meteor powerful enough to do that would almost certainly completely annihilate the earth's crust, leaving an exposed mantle, and an entirely unliveable earth. Anyway, near the poles, depending on the season, there are times when the sun does not set for prolonged periods of time, but that has to do with Earth's geometry more than anything, and unless you actually go toward the poles, you won't see any difference.
