With this designation, the people of Guam are considered American Citizens.Although a non self governing colonial territory of the United States of America for the past 114 years, Guam is considered a country by its indigenous Chamorro inhabitants for the past 4,000 years. It belongs to the archipelago of the Mariana Islands that includes 14 other major islands in the northern Pacific bounded by the Philippine Sea.
