Best Answer

H2o is water.

h - hydrogen

o - oxygen

(H2) 2 atoms of hydrogen. (O) 1 atom of oxygen.

The "2" describes how many atoms of that substance there are - it shows that there are 2 hydrogen atoms. There is no "1" for o, or oxygen, because without a number, we automatically know that there is 1 atom, and not, say, six.

This may sound confusing, but it works out.

Hydrogen has 1 proton and 1 electron. Oxygen has 8 and 8. So there are 10 protons and 10 electrons.

But please note: H2O is not an atom it is a compound.

H+ is just a proton, as long as the hydrogen ion is protium.

Is hydrogen a compound or a mixture?

Hydrogen can be an atom (H1), a molecule (H2 or normal hydrogen), an isotope such as deuterium or tritium. Ionized Hydrogen is simply a proton.

What is an example for a proton?

Ionized hydrogen-1 isotope is identical to a proton.

Which element has the smallest number of proton in its atom?

The element with one proton per atom is hydrogen.

Why is the H ion referred to as a proton?

Most hydrogen ions are simply protons. They have no neutron associated with them, and because they are ions, there is no electron. If the hydrogen is known to have no neutron, it is called protium. For practical proposes, there is no distinction between a protium ion and a proton that is not part of a nucleus. Some hydrogen ions are not simply protons, however, and have an associated neutron. In this form, the hydrogen is referred to as deuterium. When hydrogen has two neutrons, it is called tritium, and is radioactive.

How much bigger is a hydrogen atom than a proton?

A hydrogen atom has a diameter of about 60 picometers while a proton has a diameter of 1.75 femotometers. So a hydrogen atom's diameter is about 35,000 times that of a proton.

What element has 1 proton in each atom?

Hydrogen has one proton in its nucleus.

What proton of an atom never changes in chemistry?

Hydrogen proton

What is the Ionization potential of hydrogen atom?

hydrogen can not be ionized. there are not enough protons or neutrons in the neucleus to support an extra electron for a negative ion. A hydrogen atom is merely a proton orbited by an electron, meaning that if it were to lose it's single electron, it would just become a single proton and a single electron. nothing more.

Which element has the smallest number of proton in the atom?

The element with one proton per atom is hydrogen.

What is the proton for xenon?

A proton is a subatomic particle which is the same in whichever element it is found. A proton from a Xenon atom is no different to that from a Hydrogen atom or a Uranium atom.

If a proton was 1cm across how big would the atom be?

The answer for a hydrogen atom would be about 100 meters across a proton is about 1/10,000 th of the diameter of a hydrogen atom.
