The International Scholar Laureate Program (ISLP) offers university students an opportunity to take an educational trip abroad. The trips are run by Envision EMI. The program is open to a wide variety of students, although students that belong to national honor societies (i.e. Golden Key) are targeted.
Participants have the chance to visit cultural sites and companies related to their field of study:
- Anthropology & Archaeology
- Business
- Communications & Journalism
- Diplomacy & International Relations
- Engineering
- Medicine
- Music
- Nursing
- Technology
While the trips are not inexpensive, they do provide an experience that may be hard to duplicate. Potential participates should review the itinerary and decide whether it will help them meet their goals. The company markets its programs to high-achievers through postal and email marketing campaigns.
Envision offers similar leadership development and life success skills to other age groups through the National Young Scholars Program, the Congressional Youth Leadership Council, and the National Youth Leadership Forum.
In June 2010, the Better Business Bureau of Metro Washington DC and Eastern Pennsylvania recognized the company as an Accredited Business after downgrading it a year earlier because of "problems encountered by attendees at its Presidential Inaugural Conference."
In May 2009, a class action lawsuit was filed against the firm, also because of complaints about inaugural conferences. The lawsuit was settled in June 2010 when the company offered to provide scholarship vouchers to any participant in one of the inaugural conferences who claimed to have been unsatisfied with his or her experience.
