Islam is violent because it has verses calling for violence in the Qur'an. The peaceful verses are abrogated by the more violent verses in the Qur'an. Therefore if you are told that Islam is a peaceful religion it is false!. If you read the Qur'an, Hadiths, and Sunnah you will see that Mohammad called for all the Jews to be exterminated and non believers to be killed if they did not accept Islam. Apostasy is a deadly sin in Islam and carries that death penalty by stoning IAW hadiths. Read and you will understand. Some Qur'anic verses have been provided below for more context:
