One view:

Don't expect Christ to be descending with the clouds from heaven. This is literal interpretation of the Bible.

In the Old Testament, Daniel prophesied that the Messiah would descend with the clouds of heaven. When Jesus came to the world, He did not descend with the clouds. He came physically through an ordinary woman, Mary. However, as soon as Jesus was baptized, heaven opened and the Spirit of God descended on him. The prophecy was fulfilled by the descend of the Holy Spirit from heaven and not His physical body descending from heaven.

When Jesus Christ ascended to heaven, the Apostles were told "This same Jesus, who has been taken from you into heaven, will come back in the same way you have seen him go into heaven. Jesus has returned very shortly after, i.e. during Pentecost. He came back in the form of Holy Spirit descending from heaven, not physically descending from heaven.

If Jesus has returned, why did the Apostles still talk about His coming in their Epistles as well as in the Revelations? The coming of the Lord, the coming of Christ and similar expressions refer primarily to the judgment of God on all man. This judgment happens in the life time of all man. James wrote in his Epistle that the Lord's coming is near, the Judge is standing at the door! (James 5:8-9) If this is referring to a physical coming at the end of the world, it could not be described as near, and certainly not at the door. It is at the door of every man because it will happen in their life time.

no one knows when, but i believe he is coming back soon

Another answerMatthew 24:14 says when the gospel of the kingdom is preached in all the world for a witness to all nations. I believe that most that are alive today will see the second coming, probably between now and the end of 2012. I have not heard anyone else say it, I just see the world moving toward what the Bible says will be in the last days, as in the days of Noah. We have the ability now to spread the gospel throughout the world via the internet to all nations as referenced as the main sign given by Jesus above. There are many other things prophsied (told us by the Spirit of God) in the Bible, but these two are plenty for me to know that it is time to prepare the bride of Christ for His return. Another answerNot just yet. Prophecy says that Jesus will return at the "last trump" or "trumpet" sound, which may or may not be a literal trumpet blast, considering that Revelation calls those trumpets "plagues." (Rev.9:20)

But, in the chronology of Revelation, the "last trumpet" doesn't sound until AFTER the prophesied testimony of the "Two Witnesses" for three-and-a-half years during the Great Tribulation in Jerusalem (Rev.11).

It says that God will not allow them to be killed until the 3 1/2 years is done. Then, the Beast will kill them... and they will lie dead in the streets of Jerusalem until they suddenly resurrect 3 1/2 days later and RISE INTO THE CLOUDS. Which sounds a lot like the description of God's saints rising into the clouds to meet the Lord in the air upon His return.

Strangely enough, it's at this time (verse 15) that the seventh and last trumpet sounds, which marks the return of Jesus Christ. The evidence is, then, that the Two Witnesses will be killed toward the end of the Great Tribulation 3 1/2 days before Jesus returns to the earth with the Kingdom of God.

"...the seventh angel sounded; and there were great voices in heaven, saying, The kingdoms of this world are become the kingdoms of our Lord, and of His Christ; and He shall reign for ever and ever." (verse15)

"Soon," of course, is a relative term when measured against eternity... but Jesus isn't prophesied to return until after the Two Witnesses show up in Jerusalem and give their 3 1/2 year testimony on behalf of God's people being persecuted and killed.

In the Tribulation, organized religion will be put down, and the Two Witnesses will fulfull the witnessing of the Kingdom of God to all the nations by the very sensation of them and their plagues. For 3 1/2 years, the Lord will not allow the world to stop them.

But, I haven't seen the Two Witnesses, yet.

We don't know how quickly He's coming from our point of view.

Jesus says in Revelation that he is coming quickly.

He which testifieth these things saith, Surely I come quickly. Amen. Even so, come, Lord Jesus. Revelation 22:20

But time to the Lord is different than we see it.

But, beloved, be not ignorant of this one thing, that one day is with the Lord as a thousand years, and a thousand years as one day. 2 Peter 3:8

Christians have always taught that Christ's return is imminent but not necessarily "soon." But this is not the 'Rapture' that we have heard so much about.

The Rapture is a theological invention of John Nelson Darby, the nineteenth-century founder of the Plymouth Brethren. He asserted that Christians would suddenly be whisked bodily up to heaven, leaving the non-believers behind. Although few people belong the the Plymouth Brethren Church, many Christians believe in its founder's most enduring theological creation, the Rapture.

There has been some dispute among proponents of Rapture theology as to just when the Rapture would occur. When John Nelson Darby created the idea of the Rapture, in 1830, he was careful not to state when it would actually happen. Hal Lindsey, author of The Late Great Planet Earth and one of the principal modern proponents of the Rapture, decided that biblical prophecy required that it would occur within one generation, or forty years, of the founding of the state of Israel in 1948. Barbara R. Rossing (The Rapture Exposed) says that as 1988 approached, with no sign of the Rapture to come, Lindsey began to back off from that statement. Another proponent of the Rapture, Harold Campling, pinned down the actual date of the Rapture, in May 2011. When this month came and went, Campling changed his prophecy to October 2011. But still no Rapture.

This has not stopped supporters of Rapture theology from teaching that the Rapture must come soon. We just have to wait. Or accept that the Rapture is an idea whose time has come and gone.

Yes. He said so himsaelf in Revelation 22.20 - "Surely I come quickly."

Another Answer:

Jesus told us that no one but the Father knows the day and hour - not even Him. Yet, Jesus also told us to watch always and be prepared. He told us of signs that would inevitably occur in Matthew 24. Be vigilant.

Surely it would be fair to say that with the coming and ending of each day, humanity comes that much closer to the 2nd Coming.
