Jiang Zemin (1926- ) is currently not the President of the People's Republic of China. He served as president from 1993 to 2003. Jiang also served as General Secretary of the Communist Party of China from 1989 to 2002, and Chairman of the Central Military Commission from 1989-2004. He was considered "paramount leader" from 1992 to 2004.

The current president of the People's Republic of China is Hu Jintao (1942- ). He, like Jiang Zemin was, is considered a "paramount leader" because he holds the top position in the 3 branches of government in China.
