I dont think it is among the Top-5. There are about 20 NIT's and the top 5 I would consider are Trichy, Surathkal, Warangal, Calicut and Bhopal.

The rest of them caanot be exactly ranked. But some NIT's like Nagpur, Surat, Jaipur, Jamshedpur will come in the II rank

The third group will be from jalandhar, Sringar, Hamirpur, Durgapur, Rorkela, Allahabad, BIT-Mesra, Kurukshetra,

I would prefer to avoid allahabad, Patna, Raipur and Silchar

But the difference between II ranking and III ranking is very minute.

The answer is: It is not on the Top 5. But can be in the Top-10.

before placing the question you must know that none of the NIT i.e NATIONAL INSTITUTE OF TECHNOLOGY are govt. institutes like IIT not private no nit are private
