In Basic Instinct 1992 what's the name of the character played by Sharon Stone?

It is implied that she is, yes. At the very end of the movie, we see her clutching an ice pick as she and Michael Douglas' character have sex (at least, I think it's Michael Douglas' character, but I can't remember clearly). Then slowly she drops the ice pick to the floor, apparently deciding not to kill him after all.

Its not obvious. Katherine wrote a new story about the death in the elevator, but that doesnt prove she is the killer or at least not the only murder. There are some facts that could disprove this. There was a 38 caliber gun found in Mrs. Garners house that could be really her weapon. No message was found on the voice recorder. On the other hand we can suppose it was not hers and the evidence was a false trickery of Katherine. Then here we have also two options:

a) She killed Nicks partner went back to Mrs Garners house got somehow in and put some false evidence into the drawers.

b) Katherine was a master of psychology, who could play with her clients as a puppeteer like Cipolla: She got Roxy to kill the rockstar, to run over Nick with the car. The killer in the elevator was Hazel Dobkins (former killer). While Dobkins killed the cop, she put the evidence into Mrs Garners home.

To me version "b" seems to be closer. She played a game with Nick, with the police, with Mrs Garner, Roxy. The motivation was not the pleasure of killing, but the pleasure of playing the puppetmaster of life and death in the safe background.

My real question is, what was that all about with the ice pick at the end? Even if she is the genious killer behind all, its obvious that it was predestinated Nick not to die. Mrs Garner was dead, Roxy was dead. Case closed for the police, not to mention the dying detective in the new book and having Nick alife was her last alibi.

ANSWER C. THINK.....Only Catherine and Shooter new the ending of the new book...it was only in manuscript (he read the elevator scene??) Beth couldnt have known this (also her apartment lock was playing up??)...and its called "BASIC INSTINCT" his...she did it and said "Murder isnt like smoking,you can give it up"....Catherine did it alright...I know; I was married to a cold, calculating woman just like her character portrayal.
