Strattera and Adderall can both be used for ADHD but they have different side effects and therefore different results.

NO! If you research any REAL study done with Adderall XR or Strattera, you will see that Strattera is maybe 50% as effective as Adderall XR at the most. Also, from patient and physician feedback, you will see the same results. Strattera is not only weak in its efficacy, it is not a very safe product. Adderall XR and other stimulants have been around for over 50 years and are very studied regarding safety. Stimulants such as Adderall XR are proven safe and effective for the treatment of ADHD. Think about it, Eli Lilly has spent more advertising Strattera than all of the other 7 or 8 ADHD branded products combined. Why is Adderall XR still the number one prescribed and fastest growing ADHD product on the market? Because it works the best and has the highest response rate. It has changed my life.

No. They are very different drugs.

Adderall:

like nearly all drugs specifically approved by the FDA for treatment of ADD/ADHD is a psychostimulant. Adderall and a number of drugs are based on Ampthetamine. Ritilan and the other 1/2 of stimulant based ADHD drugs are based on the stimulant Methylphenidate.

All of these stimulant based drugs are exactly that - Stimulants. They are Schedule II Controlled Substances in the USA, the same as cocaine, methanphetimine, morphine, and opium. Adderall and friends contain the same active-ingrediant as street-drugs known as "speed" (ampthetamine), and work very similarly to cocaine. They will put you on the "rollercoaster" though not nearly to the degree that thestree-drugs will.

It should be noted that if taken as directed, in the minute dosages perscribe by a doctor Adderall and Ritilan can be very effective for ADD/ADHD and are infinitely safer and less addictive than stree-drugs. I've been on the persribed drugs for a total of 10 years, with no ill effects to speak of. Just took myself off last month.

--------

Strattera (from Wikipedia)

"Atomoxetine is [the ONLY] non-stimulant drug approved for the treatment of attention-deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD). It is sold in the form of the hydrochloride salt of atomoxetine, a norepinephrine reuptake inhibitor." ... The brand name for Atomoxetine is Strattera.

Strattera is from a completely different class(family) of drugs. It is not a stimulant, not a controlled substance and will not put you on the "rollercoaster". Strattera really has nothing in common with Adderall at all. It is also very effective for some people in treating ADD/ADHD. Though I've only been on it for a month and can't offer as many details.

Generally the stimulants are perscribed to children, where they have an unusual and inexplicable *calming* effect on those who are truly ADD/ADHD. As one becomes an adult the stimulants often begin acting more like one would normally expect, and loose some of their effectiveness.

Strattera is now the preffered treatment for adults, where the stimulants prove to be less effective. I'm not sure how often it is persribed to children, but I think it is less preferred there.

With all that said, if I had a child and after a thorough investigation, they were cliniclly diagnosed as ADD/ADHD and the doctor perscribed them Ritilan/Addera;l I would have no problems giving it to them. It could be the best thing that ever happened to them.

No; Strattera is an entirely different chemical structure. For some, it is more effective than Adderall. There is no best medication as each individual responds differently; work closely with your healthcare professional to find the drug and dosage that works best for you.

As far as my experience, no, but it has worked on others. Also if your question was "Does Strattera work for ADD and ADHD?", then yes, because they are, in my opinion, the same thing.

See your doctor. Adderall can cause tics, but not Strattera.

Will Strattera have the same affects as adderall at 120 mg help big test tomorrow?

No it wouldn't have the same affects. Strattera is a non-stimulant, non controlled drug used for ADHD. Adderall is a stimulant and a controlled drug. I take Adderall for narcolepsy to keep me awake. Adderall can also be taken for ADHD.

How much time do you need in between when changing from Adderall to Strattera?

When i went to adderall it had only been a couple of days since i had last took my Stattera, I asked my doctor if i should be switching to adderall this fast and he said there would be no problem, and there wasn't

Does Strattera contain morphine?

No, it does not contain any opiates. To put it bluntly, Strattera has no real value as a recreational drug, nor is it terribly effective for it's intended purpose. Most ADD/ADHD treatments, such as Adderall, contain dopamine reuptake inhibitors which can produce a speedy high. However, Strattera does not contain DRIs, as it is an alternative to stimulant based treatment forms.

Best medicine for some with adhd and a fast metabolism and Strattera does not work?

I know focalin would not work because it has to stay in your system for a little while to see the good effects (side effects are usually present immediately). I have high metabolism and adderall IR and strattera didn't work for me either.

Has anyone found Strattera to be as effective as Adderall XR for providing the motivation and energy to begin and complete tasks?

Strattera was a complete waste of time for me. Lots of side effects and no efficacy. Adderall XR is much better. Strattera seems to be useful for about 1/2 those who take it. Plus it's very new. Effects of low doses of stimulants are very well understood over time. NOT SO with Strattera, despite all the fancy marketing material. I had exact same experience as above post. Maybe Strattera is good at treating hyperactivity, but for motivation and drive it's terrible! Same here. Personally, I think Strattera is a drug they give people at first to see who's just trying to get speed from Dr.s and who wants to really get help. If you go through the hoops, I guess they assume your genuine. My doctor pescribed me strattera and when i took it i felt a no energy, i could not pay attention, and i felt depressed but then i took adderal and it was completely diffrent thing

Will taking caffeine and Strattera help concentration?

Well and this is jusy my personal opinion, the euphoric state and level of concentration your able to obtain while taking adderall is obviously more potent than that of caffeine and coming off of adderall besides the occasional emotional mood swing is free of the drop in energy that caffeine induces. If you look aside from the chemical differences adderall is a safer alternative to taking the high amounts of caffeine it would take to even acheive anywhere close to the feeling that adderall gives you or the ability to concentratrate and focus on specific tasks which I don't think caffeine would allow because of it's difference. Caffine seems too be a mild stimulant where as adderall is a prescribed medication specifically designed to help with a problem. It makes the differences easier to see perhaps from an athletice perspective, I can play with my adderall as I monitor my intake when I play as where caffeine would only eventually hamper my play, regardless of the dosage because of it's physical effect on my body. So I would say that yes there is a significant difference between the too. Trust me I play better with a little adderall and a healthly diet than with a couple cokes that don't allow me that great a level of concentration for me. Cokes are great any other time as well though. Hope I helped a little. Wish you the best of luck. God bless.

The same ones for ADHD hyperactivity sub-type such as Adderall, Vyvanse, Concerta, Strattera, etc. Sometimes antidepressants such as Prozac can aid in the inattentive subtype as well.
