I never heard of any proven fact that ultrasonic sound as an insect repellent. Actually, when I played a frequency that they said 'repell mosquitoes' the mosquitoes went even close! I think maybe, because male mosquitoes have antennae that detects the female sound, they say.....

Cedar oil is a natural insect repellent. It works on fleas all the way up to snakes.
It sure is, and it works as good as Deep Wood Off.

Ultrasonic frequency has been shown to be effective for repelling female mosquitoes. It reportedly works within one meter of the insects.
A good cat repellent spray would be the Mega Sonic Cat Repellent. It is entirely harmless to cats yet will still keep them away, and if you wish to, you can also spread garlic around your garden to keep them away.
Water can be used as a repellent for most animals. It will not work on bugs. Havahart makes a product that works off of your garden hose. When it senses movement, it releases a stream of water that will drive away all animals. Water is an effective repellent.
A good investment, if it works!!!!Ken, the Shark Wrangler, www.sharkwrangler.com
An active ingredient whose natural or synthetic chemistry is not within certain ranges is the way insect repellent works. The active ingredient may be citronella, DEET, geranium oil, lemongrass, oil of lemon eucalyptus, peppermint oil or soybean oil. Insects such as mosquitoes and ticks seek carbon dioxide or lactic emissions, certain colors and specific temperatures from their unwilling human hosts, whose vulnerability is lessened by being protected by oils or sprays whose lab- or Mother Nature-made contents are deemed repulsive to breeding and feeding.
It works just like any other input signal (you know, the changing current moves an iron slug connected to the diaphragm of the speaker). The trick is to use a speaker with a small enough diaphragm to respond to those high frequency signals. ADDED. An ultrasonic loudspeaker is more likely to be piezoelectric than moving-coil in action, especially much above about 20kHz.
