The gun would have to say 742F on it somewhere to be the premier model
400
The Stevens High Power was available in four grades. The lowest grade (425) has a plain walnut stock & forearm. The Blue Book of Gun Values, 25th Ed suggests a value of $295 in 60% condition and $650 in 100%. The next step (430) has a checkered stock and forearm and values are listed as $450 and $950. The 435 has fancier checkering and engraved borders on the receiver and lever, $650-$1400. Top of the line (440) has engraved game scenes on the receiver and engraving on the forearm tip, $1000-$2950.
Frederic Remington was primarily an artist known for his illustrations of the American West, particularly scenes of cowboys, Native Americans, and the US Cavalry. He did not write any books, but he did provide illustrations for magazines and books during his career.
The rifle used in the deer hunting scenes is a Remington model 700 BDL chambered for the 30-06 government cartridge. I believe he was using an M16-A1 in his Vietnam scenes. http://www.remington.com/library/history/firearm_models/centerfire/model_700.asp
The scenes on the Roman mosaics were whatever the person who was paying for it wanted. There are seafaring scenes, landscapes, religious scenes, nature scenes of birds and flowers, gladiatorial scenes and scenes of mythological figures. And there is, of course, the famous mosaic of Alexander the Great. The scenes on the Roman mosaics were whatever the person who was paying for it wanted.
