A bachelor's degree in psychology is a BA, not a BS. There are graduate programs as well like the Masters degree. Doctorate degrees are divided into two: PhD and PsyD. The difference is that with a Ph.D a person can work in clinical work as well as academia. However with a PsyD the only work available is in the clinical field. The reason is that PhD students are involved in research, unlike the PsyD students. You can have a BS in psychology. It's a Bachelor's of Science. In order to have a BS in psychology your major would be Psychology but you would have to minor in a math or science. I would have to say a BS is better.

It's not that one is better than the other, it's just that they are slightly different in approach to a particular field of study.

The Bachelor's of Arts degree (BA) has a broader scope, with a strong emphasis on the humanities, theoretical and general knowledge in a recognized discipline, interdisciplinary field, or of a professional study.

The Bachelor of Science degree (BS) is more of a focused approach with a science base to include a balance of liberal arts, technological knowledge, math and computer oriented skills, and practical skills needed for a particular discipline within the field.

Both are Bacalaureate degrees, requiring at least 120 credit hours. A Bachelor of Arts degree is associated with Language, humanities, science, history, etc. A Bachelor of Science degree is the result of studies in science, engineering, physics, Biology, chemistry, etc. The difference? The BS Degree, being a more technical degree, does not require classes in language or arts past the sophomore year.

What classes do you have to take to be psychiatrist?

You have to go to Medical School to be a Psychiatrist. A real Medical School not one of those ones they advertise for on television. You need a BA degree before Med School in which you could major in Psychology but I'm not even sure it's necessary. You could be a Psychologist with just a BA but most places doing the hiring want a Psychologist who has a Masters degree. Bottom line, both are going to require a lot more time, energy, and money than you have realized.

There isn't a AA degree in psychology . That is only 2 years of college and it is all general education classes. To be a working psychologist requires 4-8 years of college ending with a BS/BA at the very least. Generally, a MS/MA is required to work as a psychologist and in some cases a PhD not including the intership. So, to answer your question you would make nothing with a 2 year degree.
