However, there are some antique firearms that can bring quite a bit of money at auctions, like a 1911 from WWII that is still in decent shape, or Wyatt Earp's peacemaker. Sometimes the value of a gun will go up as you own it and you could sell it for a profit. I have a Remmington 700 that falls into that category, bought cheap and now worth about 2-3 times what I paid. These are not the rule but the exception. If you buy new, the value of the gun goes down before you leave the shop with it, just like a car. It's "worth" is whatever you can get for it and people will always pay a little more to get something new rather than second-hand.
