All of us will experience an acne breakout at one point or another in our lives. However, while many are concerned about getting rid of acne, not many ask themselves what causes acne in the first place. This is an important question to ask as getting to the root causes of acne-just like in other things-often helps us solve the riddle of getting rid of it.

In this article, we'll give you a brief explanation onwhat causes acne. Once we have discussed that, we'll also provide you with some tips on common and effective acne solutions
Ready? Read on.

What Happens Under Your Skin

On your skin are pores, oil glands, bacteria, and hair, among other things. The combination of the first four creates a development of acne on your skin.

The oil glands-with the stimulation of hormones called androgens-produce oil (called sebum) to lubricate the hair and your skin. But there are times when there is an overproduction of sebum, causing a blockage in your pores. This creates black and white heads.

There are also bacteria called propionibacterium acnes on your skin, which protect your skin from harmful bacteria. However, when there's a blockage on your pores, the p. acnes bacteria will grow in your pores and feed on the excess sebum. This causes white blood cellsto be concentrated on these areas, irritating and inflaming your skin. The inflamed skin is what you now see as a pimple.

How to Prevent Acne Breakouts

From the previous paragraphs, you now see that overproduction of sebum causes the blockage of your pores, which eventually leads to acne breakouts. But what causes the overproduction of sebum?

Stress can be one. Androgen-the hormone that stimulates the production of sebum-is also produced by your adrenal glands. When you are stressed, your adrenal glands produce excessive amounts of androgen, causing more than normal production of sebum.

So one way of preventing acne is to keep yourself stress-free. A stress-free life will help curb the androgen levels in your body, and thus, minimize the chances of acne breakouts.

Age could also be a contributing factor to acne breakouts, especially when you're at the stage of puberty. At this stage, your body experiences hormonal changes. Androgen is primarily a male hormone, and there is a huge production of this hormone among boys during puberty, so boys will grow more pimples when they're in their teens than girls.

In this case, what you should do is wash your face at least twice a day. Clean water without any soap will often do. While some dermatologists say that acne breakouts have nothing to do with your hygiene, regular washing does help remove excess oil your skin's surface.

You see, knowing what causes acne makes it a lot easier for you to figure out how to solve your acne problems. Aside from that, it also helps you find out immediately which among the anti-acne products out there will work as advertised, even before you buy them. Sometimes, though, the simplest solutions against acne do the trick.

How might you be able to distinguish between a person who practices good oral hygiene and one who does not?

Many oral problems are caused by poor hygiene. Others result from poorly aligned teeth. Halitosis, or bad breath, can be caused by eating certain foods, poor oral hygiene, smoking, bacteria on the tongue, decayed teeth, or gum disease. So over all, the way you could tell if some one has poor oral hygiene is by the color of their teeth and their breath and some one that does not have poor hygiene, will not have yellow teeth and stinky breath and their tongue wont have a white layer of bacteria on it.
