I thought they couldn't see any thing until 6 weeks. You might want to wait before you start stressing. At 5 weeks an ultrasound tech. can see a thickening in the uterine lining but a heartbeat cannot be detected because the embryo is not developed enough. It might appear empty to you because there is nothing there but a spec the size of maybe the point on a pen, if that big!So I would not worry.

What does an empty amniotic sac mean?

What is a Blighted Ovum (Empty Gestational Sac)? A blighted ovum (empty gestational sac) occurs when a fertilized egg implants into the uterine wall, however, the fetus does not continue to develop past the sixth to eighth week of gestation. There is continued development of the placenta and amniotic sac which produces hCG (giving the positive pregnancy test). Most women either do not know they are pregnant or find out within the first trimester that they have a blighted ovum (empty gestational sac).

What if you have a very small empty gestational sac at 6 weeks and 2500 hcg?

It is possible that you may have a molar pregnancy. You should see your doctor for more information.

About 3 or 4 days after a missed period.

Is an empty gestational sac measuring 15mm a sign that the pregnancy is not viable?

Wait until 25mm to be sure, but most likely yes because a yolk sac should be seen at 13mm.

Is there a risk with an irregular shaped gestational sac?

I had an irregular shaped gestational sac. At 8 weeks I had a scan which showed that the yolk sac measured 8 weeks but the fetal pole only measured 6 weeks but there was a heart beat. I had a repeat scan 2 weeks later sadly to find that the sac had collapsed and no heart beat. I have to go for a D and C tomorrow because my body as not rejected the pregnancy. Thus in my case a irregular shaped gestational sac was not a good sign. I also had a slightly irregular shaped gestational sac first noticed at a 6 week scan with a heartbeat of 118. I had bleading with this pregnancy as well that started as a light discharge and then became a steady period. I went to the E.R. at 8 weeks and the baby's heartbeat was strong at 150. The E.R. doctor said they could not tell where the bleading was coming from, but noted again that the ultrasound showed a slightly irregular shaped gestational sac and to follow up in 1 week. Two days later, I miscarried at home. After talking to several friends that are OBGYNs, any irregularity to the gestational sac will most likely lead to a miscarriage.

What is intrauterine gestational sac with a single embryo?

A single live fetal pole is referring to the baby in the stage when it is first visible inside the gestational sac. As for the intrauterine gestational sac, that is means the pregnancy is seen within the uterus and is not ectopic.

Is your pregnancy normal if the ultrasound scan reveals you are 5 weeks pregnant with the gestational sac and yolk sac minus fetal pole but based on your last menstrual period you ought to be 9 weeks?

There are two answers to this - one good and one bad. The most probable answer is that you miscalculated and you are actually 5 weeks pregnant. Unfortunately there is a possibility that you did fall pregnant 9 weeks ago and that the pregnancy will not progress. It is possible that either the fetus is not developing, or that the fetus has died which usually means the gestational sac will shrink and appear to be not as advanced as you are.

Is pregnancy normal if you've had an ultrasound at 3 wks and see no gestational sac?

That sounds perfectly normal. The gestational sac is all that is able to be picked up at this stage. The baby grows within it. By the fifth week, the location of the baby becomes obvious as does the fetal heart.

You had a scan with empty sac measuring 4mm week later sac grown to 9mm still empty sack what does this mean?

I had a scan monday thinking I was 6wks pregnant but when I had it they found a sac measuring 9mm the docter said its early and bring me back in to weeks have I lost my baby or is docter right its to early I just think he trying to make me think possitave :( am so unhappy just want to no if am going to misscarriage or there could be hope please help A 9mm gestational sac should correlate to between 5 or 6 weeks gestational age, by which time one should be able to see a yolk sac developing, although maybe not a fetal pole. It is true, that a small gestational sac may indicate very early pregnancy, and a repeat ultrasound and Beta-HCG level should be done. 2 weeks is probably a bit long to wait, however. I would repeat the HCG in 3 days, and another ultrasound in 1 week at the most. While it is possible this is a miscarriage, you should wait for the repeat testing to be sure before you really get worried. Otherwise, you have spent this time worrying for nothing.

I am 6 weeks pregnant with everything measuring good except dr. says i have a larger gestational sac what does this mean a sign of miscarriage?

not necessarily, it just means that you are early and the gestational sac is the bag of waters the baby grows inside of. Never heard of that leading to miscarriage. As you get bigger, the bag will expand too. Hope this helped!!
