Is attending a mediocre community college worthwhile?

Answer

Absolutely! You will save lots of money completing your GEs at a community college and transferring. Remember, when you list your degrees on your resume, it doesn't matter where you start, it's where you end.

Always check with transfer counsellor to make sure all of your classes will transfer to the university you will be attending. A great tool to use is www.assist.org. Besides the GE units, it tells you which courses for your major will transfer from the CC to the 4 year.

Answer

Any college is good, just get in contact with the college you want to transfer to and take the classes that they require. All you really work for in a community college is your basic classes then you go to the university to take the important classes towards your major.

Answer

I think it is a good thing that you're doing and less expensive. Just make sure that your school is accredited. Most community colleges are. These are just the first two years, which you would be doing at a university anyway. I think they're smaller classes in a community college which makes it better overall.

Answer

It's a good deal. You will save tons of $$, and will usually be able to take the equivalent of the first two years of college at the community college. Before ever applying, make sure to check on the accreditation and transferability of your courses! Also, community colleges are great places to go if you are unsure of your major or are working to put yourself through college. If you fit the former case, you can take extra time to explore basic classes in a range of areas, until you find the one that you most enjoy. In the latter case, many community colleges have flexible course offerings, meeting in the day or evening, or even on-line. While your friends may not think too much of it, community colleges are a bargain, and can be very good if utilized fully. Good Luck!
