This depends on what you are doing with the baking soda. I had a question the other day on my blog, linked to this question, about how to rid lettuce of aphids while washing it. The catch was that the person with the question was not growing the plants, but getting them from her local CSA farm, so she could not rid the plants from aphids while they were still growing.

A friend of my recommended that she rinse the lettuce plants in a baking soda/water solution before eating them to rid the plant of aphids. You might give it a try!

It COULD, if the soil is too acidic. The problem is that too much baking soda could also cause a buildup of mineral salts.

baking soda is a weak base (i think), and soil pH is a factor that influences plant growth.

Yes,baking soda does help to grow a plant. It helps to grow a plant because the baking soda has some chemical that fertilizes.
