Yes, it is very bad for one's health. Much of the organs in the esophagus and near the lungs contain oxygen in their walls. Bleach contains many bases, which are chemicals containing the hydroxide ion (OH). These chemicals, if they come into contact with anything containing oxygen, such as skin and the mentioned organs, the oxygen will be lifted from the area, causing large amounts of irritation and cell death. Besides this problem, there is also the simply fact that bleach is a toxic substance.
