Carbon is a reactive chemical element.
All the alkali metals (Li, Na, K, Rb, Cs, Fr) are very reactive.

Charcoal react, for example, with oxygen: this is the process of burning (oxydation).
As mercury is below hydrogen in the reactivity series of metals,it is not reactive.. but if u mix it with oxygen it blows up and makes a big BOOOOOOOOM!
