  • Domestic violence in men (and women included) is a psychological factor and the high percentage of that psychological disorder is the environment in which they grew up in. If one or both parents argue or hit one another or the male (being the stronger sex) is physically violent to the mother (children can be included in this physical abuse as well) then that is a learning pattern which the children are left with and they see no other way of getting through relationships than becoming verbally or physically abusive. However, there is a small percentage of children that grow up in abusive families, but overcome the problem and want to be the complete opposite of their parent or parents who had been verbally or physically violent towards them. Also, there is a small percentage of males that may have not had the breaks in life they feel they deserve and if they feel they deserve more they can become frustrated and strike out with verbal or physical abuse. Alcohol and drugs can often change a man's personality where they can become violent towards their spouse or children. Because of male violence in a home this can cause a type of male chauvinism where the man feels he is king of his castle and everyone must obey on his terms and if others in the household disobey this can be met with domestic violence. A high percentage of abusive men have little to no respect for women so if they meet any women he can become chauvinistic and regard women as a whole as useless.
  • Added; Rather than cloak it in medical guise and calling it a "psychological disorder" it can also be stated that is an example of "learned" behavior, or 'bullying.'
  • The perpetrator saw it as a model when they were a child and/or they tried it once with a partner, and it was successful in getting them what they wanted, so they continued the practice of controlling their partner in this manner.
