Is fifth an ordinal or a cardinal number?

Ordinals in linguistics

In linguistics, ordinals are words that show rank or order. For example, first, second, third, fourth, fifth, etc., are ordinal numbers. They are often written 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th, etc. Cardinal numbers, on the other hand, are the traditional counting numbers: 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, etc.
