Is it OK to take hydroxyzine pam if you are prescribed hydroxyzine hcl?

Answer:

The hydrochloride salt is used in tablet form and pamoate is used in capsules. It may be either a stability concern or masking of taste of pamoate. I do not think it would cause any adverse reaction if somebody replaces the dosage form.

As stated above there Is no "real" difference between the two medicines. HLC and Pamoate are simply different versions of "salt"

I would suggest giving half dose at first, Just to be safe. But I would probably say that a 1:1 switch Is fine.
