Is it a sign of affection when your dog puts their paw on you and rests it there just looking at you or does it mean something more significant? In: Dog Behavior |
[Edit] |
Answer
It may mean they want something. If my dog wants food, wants to go out, or is scared and wants me to do something about it, that's when he puts his paw on me. I think it's a mixture of affection and asking you to do something for them.
Answer
I know in the case of my dog, she's telling me something... "rub my tummy mummy" :)
Answer
It is a sign of affection.
Answer
IT IS NOT ALWAYS a sign of affection it is a sign of the dog in control of the house hold the dog is showing hes the dominant male/female to fix this is to create or show him that you are the dominant one the pack leader. never let it go on or yes, it will escalate. There is also another explanation its the dog is simply just saying there in charge of you don't ever start saying how cute it is or your just saying its okay to do this kind of behavior and soon if you do not fix it the dog will then turn aggressive towards anyone that may come near you, hes just saying that's my property what are you doing here. GOOD LUCK! SY
Answer
I have two dogs that are well trained and IT IS a sign of affection. Many dogs adore their masters and they are loving and loyal. I always pat my dogs and talk to them. They are simply content. When guests come and if one of my dogs does this I just tell them to go to their cushion in a soft voice and they do.
The other poster is correct in saying that the master should always be the dominant one over any pet. With good obedience training, good food, vet care and love you've got one of the most loyal pets (cats included as well) as a friend that does not judge you. Where in this world can you find that sort of loyalty!
Answer
I agree with the top poster and the poster above. I think that it is a sign of affection 50% of the time. If you know anything about dog psychology then you would know that if a dog jumps on you then it could mean that the dog is saying you are my human and before you know it this action could soon turn into a possessive dog that barks whenever a person comes near it. If I were you I would fix this problem now before it escalates into something that you don't want.
Good luck!
ANSWER
This is tricky without seeing the dog. It can be a sign of dominance or affection. the best way to tell is examine the rest of your dogs beavior. If he is well behaved, comes when called, and doesn't boss you about then it may well be affection. If the dog is bossy, ie, barks at you to make you do things, or barks back when told off, disobeys commands, barges through doors infront of you, then this is a sign of dominance, basically if the dog puts it's paw on you to ask you to do something, he thinks he is in controll. I have 2 dogs, an English Mastiff and a Lab x , 1 will paw for reassurance & out of affection, the other will do it because he thinks he's boss, it's the Lab x that thinks he's the boss!!!
