Is playing piano hard when you are about twelve?

As early as possible, possibly age 8 or 9 is preferred, but some (like myself) began at age 6.

One can start learning at any age, really. But if you are considering a major career in piano and want to earn a decent living playing the piano, then it's best to start out young.

Although there are some good points made above, parents should consider their child's attention span, level of interest in piano lessons and readiness. Most children can begin piano lessons at age 5 and experience success, if the parent is part of the lesson team (teacher, student, parent) and assists the child at home. It is completely acceptable to ask the piano teacher to assess the child's readiness for piano lessons.

You can give children piano lessons even at the age of three, but it requires a really great, patient piano teacher. Children this young and a little older have really short attention spans. A piano teacher must give piano lessons for a toddler in around 15 minutes or less. Ages between six to 10 years old are the best ages to teach children how to play the piano. Children around these ages are curious and have an unlimited supply of energy.

It may be a little more difficult to learn to play piano for a person getting older than for a young child, but with time and patience it can and does happen. I have been a piano teacher and had several adult student beginners through the years (the oldest was in her seventies). One reason it may be a bit more difficult is because of the very small muscles involved in the fingers. Also, an older person has listened to music much longer and has higher expectations. Start with a good teacher with experience, carve out a bit of time each day for practice and be kind and patient with yourself and enjoy making music!

Piano Lessons can only last up to 15 minutes. They have very short attention span and their children, they just want to enjoy things first.
